The Great American Fat Tracker
December 20th, 2007 by ChrisTomorrow we leave on our big three-week trip to America. In between seeing all the lovely people we’ve been missing for a year and a half, this trip is going to consist largely of stuffing ourselves with all the lovely food that we’ve been missing for a year and a half.
For fun I am establishing this graph to track my weight throughout the trip. If I am lucky, it will be a very boring flat line. As I blogged shortly after arriving in Japan, I lost 15 pounds pretty much immediately on moving here; I’m fully expecting to gain it back, with gluttonous interest, during this trip.

Slightly obsessive food log:
- Omelettes and hash browns (and bottomless coffee!) at Coral Cafe, Burbank
- Pizza and beer at Earth, Wind and Flour, Santa Monica
- Breakfast at Martha’s in Hermosa Beach
- In-n-Out Burger
- Guadalajara Taqueria in Davis
- Paragary’s in Sacramento (amazing food)
- Thai Bistro in Davis
- Symposium in Davis
- Kirin Chinese restaurant in Berkeley
- The Old Spaghetti Factory in Seattle
- Chinook’s in Ballard/Fishermans’ Wharf, Seattle
- Ivar’s in Mukilteo WA
- Steph ‘n’ Chris’s “deseperation enchiladas” for New Year’s Eve on Whidbey Island!
- Mae Phim in downtown Seattle
- Blue C Sushi in Fremont, Seattle
- Cheesecake Factory in Marina del Rey
- Chen’s Chinese restaurant in Thousand Oaks
- King’s Seafood in Thousand Oaks
- Noah’s Bagels in Thousand Oaks
- Martha’s again
- Pizza Port in Solana Beach, best pizza and beer in San Diego
- Original Pancake House in Encinitas
- Fins in La Jolla
- Jimmy Carter’s Mexican Restaurant in San Diego
- The Better Half, a new fancy restaurant in San Diego
- JRDN, the restaurant at Tower 23 Hotel in Pacific Beach
- Sushi Deli in Hillcrest/Mission Hills, San Diego
- Influx in Golden Hill, San Diego, of course
- Martha’s yet again, on the way back to LAX!

Chris – This is a fascinating, albeit depressing, exercise. I’ve managed to gain 5 or so pounds (so far) just visiting Hawaii, a place whose “healthiest state” status I never ever really believed despite our affection for fresh fish and outdoor exercise. Ugh. It must be an American thing. – J
